Fromm Tells Horwath to Pave the Roads & Leave Free Speech Alone
HAMILTON, August 13, 2026. Mayoralty candidate Paul Fromm has urged rival Andrea Horwath to tend to her real responsibilities and stop trying to shut down controversial meetings. “Fix the roads, Andrea. They’re a neglected disgrace. Stop trying to shut down meetings you don’t like such as the upcoming conference of the Dominion Society,” he said this evening.
Horwath recently sent a letter to meeting venues urging them not to rent to the traditionalist Dominion Society who has planned a conference in Hamilton for August 29.
Horwath has also banned the Dominion Society from the use of city facilities. “City venues belong to all of us. All citizens should be able to book city rental facilities for peaceful gatherings, no matter what their ideology. We pay for them. That’s what free speech is about,” says Fromm who is the Director of the Canadian Association for Free Expression, which has been involved in numerous legal cases supporting free expression. “City meeting facilities are not Andrea Horwath’s private property,” Fromm adds. “She seems to have her hands full with her own property issues.”
This is not the first time the Mayor has tried to keep controversial views out of Hamilton. In the summer of 2024, she urged efforts to keep Diagolon, a part of the protests against government COVID measures, from booking meeting facilities in Hamilton. The Diagolon meeting proceeded at another venue.
“You hear a lot of talk in Horwath’s circles about diversity,” Fromm notes. “What about diversity of opinion?”
