Dear Friend:

I’ll get right to the point. I’ve decided to run for Mayor of Hamilton again and I’d like to ask for your support: first, financial and, secondly, if you live in or near Hamilton, your assistance for a few hours in campaigning.

Hamilton is mired in woke politics. We have a faded old rainbow crosswalk in front of City Hall. The downtown area is littered with homeless people and staggering derelicts. Many businesses are closed.

And the roads! A disaster. The car haters at City Hall resent the automobile. The surface of many roads resemble Gaza after three years of Israeli bombing and shelling. Lanes are blocked not for a few hours or days! No, years. A major ingress into Hamilton is Main Street – a good five-lane road. The surface is a mess. Just beyond Dundurn two lanes have been blocked off since July, 2022 – yes, you read that correctly, OVER  4 YEARS! The reason – a small building of about six stories is being built. At times in the past month, for a stretch all but one of these lanes has been blocked off. By way of comparison, in 1942, with equipment primitive by today’s standards, Canada took just 18 months to build the Alaska Highway – 1,500 miles over inhospitable terrain.

In collecting signatures, I asked people what they thought of the roads in Hamilton. Two out of three were blistering: “terrible”, “a mess,” “they suck.” There’s real unhappiness with an aloof, woke and lazy City Hall. Two told me they’d suffered hundreds of dollars of damage to their cars from the potholes.

Thus, I have a real foot-in-the-door. But, I’m not asking you to be concerned about Hamilton’s roads. It’s a local issue but a way to attack the leftist car haters who hold sway at City Hall.

Running will let me comment on a number of issues I am sure are important to you too. City Hall is woke. Hamilton declared itself a “sanctuary city” years ago – favouring illegals over our own homeless. These feel good policies cost us money –we’re one of the most highly taxed cities in Southern Ontario – and our own poor the help they deserve.

The incumbent Mayor Andrea Horwath, herself immersed in scandal – she’s suing City Hall because they condemned a decrepit residence she owns – is a militant opponent of free speech. Two years ago, she vowed to block a planned meeting of the populist group Diagolon. [They outfoxed her and found another venue.] Now, on August 29, the nationalist Dominion Society, who fly the Red Ensign and urge remigration, is planning a conference in Hamilton. Mayor Horwath who can’t fix a pothole is freaking out. She’s sent a letter to venues warning them of the “danger” of free speech. She has decreed that the City will not rent a venue to the Dominion Society. This is utterly unjust. As taxpayers the Dominion Society has every right to facilities all taxpayers contribute to.

Here’s an almost comical follow-up to the Mayor’s letter: Pring Guesthouse, a small downtown hostel, is one business that received the mayor’s warning on Aug. 7. The business posted to Instagram over the weekend, saying “we are glad the City is taking this threat seriously enough to notify local businesses.” Pring said it is immigrant- and queer-owned, and that Dominion Society will never be welcome at its space, adding: “We welcome the world to Hamilton. We believe in diversity and inclusion.”  (Hamilton Spectator, August 12, 2026) “Pring must have flunked logic assuming he/she/it went to college. If they are for “diversity and inclusion,” how can they proudly EXCLUDE people?

I want to be able to stand up for freedom and taxpayers’ rights.

I’m not naïve. I was warned, by a long-time conservative activist, when I ran last time in 2022, that Hamilton is run by a fussy leftist elite. They won’t want to see me included in events. Indeed, in 2022, there were several “all-candidates’” meetings to which I wasn’t invited. On the local cable channel, the “debate” was limited to just the three perceived front runners out of 14 candidates. On the night of the debate, only two appeared. The third apparently has come down with COVID. I want made aware that CUPE was holding a barbecue for “all candidates.” A friend and I showed up. The greeters welcomed us but soon a beefy female official came over and told me to leave. “I’m a candidate for Mayor. Isn’t this an ‘all-candidates’ meeting” I answered sweetly. “You’re a holocaust denier,” she snapped.  “So, it isn’t an “ALL candidates’ meeting.”

The local media here is poisonous. Here’s what the taxpayer-funded CBC posted June 26, 2026 in listing the thus far  nominated candidates for Mayor:

“  Sasha Austin says she’s a born and raised Hamiltonian and a registered social service worker.

  Ejaz Butt is a veteran taxi industry leader and immigrant from Pakistan. He has run for political office in previous elections.

  Rob Cooper is the current councillor for Ward 8. He was elected in September of 2025, making him council’s newest member. Cooper says he’s a chartered professional accountant with experience overseeing budgets.

  Paul Fromm has a long history with white supremacist groups and causes. He has led several far-right organizations and was dismissed from his teaching job at the Peel District School Board in 1993 because of his political activities. He has run for mayor in Hamilton several times.

  Scarlett Gillespie, also known as Jelena Vermilion, is a sex work and housing advocate. She’s the executive director of the Sex Workers’ Action Program (SWAP) Hamilton.

  Keanin Loomis is the president and CEO of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction. He came in second to Horwath in the 2022 municipal election.

  Pamela Mitchell was a candidate for Ward 12 in 2022 and 2018.

  Nathalie Xian Yi Yan is the founder of the Hamilton Traditional Chinese Medical Health Science Centre, according to her LinkedIn. She has put her name forward for mayor in previous elections.”

I’m the only candidate with a negative profile. I know embarrassing things about at least three other candidates.

So, what am I to do? I’m developing a team of mostly young activists. With their help, I’ll be using the social media and some staged events to try to get around the campaign of defamation and exclusion. When I ran in 2022, a local Jewish group protested that I shouldn’t even be allowed to run. Somehow, they’d never learned how democracy operations.

I can pledge my hard work and diligence to stand up for the commonsense values you and I share. I hope I can count on your support. Please use the coupon in this mailing and make your cheque payable to Paul Fromm Campaign, Mayor of Hamilton.

Thank you in advance for joining me in this war on the woke.
