STOP TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO THINK, ANDREA: FIX THE ROADS
HAMILTON. October 22, 2026. Today Mayor Andrea Horwath will be hosting a meeting at City Hall to launch “This Hamilton Together: Show Up, Speak Out, Stop Hate, a new public awareness campaign focused on hate prevention and response.
‘This is shameful virtue signalling. Not a dime of taxpayers’ money should be spent on this project. If individual citizens wish to combat “hate”, they should be free to do it without city money.
“Hate prevention!” How pompous. Hate is an emotion. “Hate” is a smear used all too often to demonize someone whose views you oppose. When you hear: “That’s hate speech all it means is that the speech is something the accuser hates.”
It’s not the City’s job to police people’s religious or political opinions. Mayor Horwath has a habit of trying to say who should or shouldn’t speak. She was one of several mayoralty candidates who put up her hand to vote that I should be excluded from the Cable 14 “all candidates debate.” [Cable 14 did not exclude me.] Candidate Loomis voted for exclusion saying he was there “to call out hate.” All I had spoken about were taxes and Hamilton’s neglected roads. And that’s “hate.”
The mayor led a fanatical campaign to keep the Dominion Society from holding a planned conference in Hamilton in August. They were denounced as “hateful” and divisive. The joint intimidation of venues by the mayor and the police succeeded. What a victory! The anti-“hate” campaign gave the business — conference rental, catering, restaurant meals and hotel rooms for many out-of-town attendees to neighbouring Burlington. Good move, mayor.
Policing people’s opinions is not the city’s job.
Fix the roads!
