September 25. A full house of about 150 jammed the meeting hall this afternoon to hear ALL of the mayoralty candidates for Hamilton. I received lots of compliments and a friendly reception. Incumbent Mayor Andrea Horwath announced: “I am anti-racist, anti-Islamophobia, anti-homophobia and opposed to anti-Semitism unlike one of the people at this table.” I guess that meant me. I should have stood up and taken a bow. I stressed that to keep Hamilton’s soaring taxes down will require a line-by-line examination of the budget — every job, every programme must be justified. I urged cutting out all grants to special interest groups like the anti-free speech Hamilton Anti-Racist Research Group which pockets $90,000 of taxpayers’ money.
